Prerequisite: Engineering Explorations, Algebra I

• Work as a member of an engineering team

• Work on hands-on projects to solve engineering problems

• Use 3-D solid modeling programs, graphics, mathematics, and science to solve engineering problems

12th PRINCIPLES OF ENGINEERING, PROJECT LEAD THE WAY (8441)

• In this Project Lead the Way (PLTW) course, students explore the engineering profession and the fundamental aspects of engineering problem solving.

• Study the historical and current impacts of engineering on society, including ethical implications.

• Mathematical and scientific concepts will be applied to fundamental engineering topics, including mechanics and electrical-circuit theory
  

Information Technology 

Information technology specialists design computer equipment and software to store, retrieve, and transmit information, develop and manage business information, and create application tools. In addition to working with computers and networks, professionals in information technology also focus on other information technologies, like television, appliances, and smartphones. Information technology pathway curriculum and enrichment learning programs focus on designing, developing, applying, implementing, supporting, or managing computer-based information systems, computer hardware, software, multimedia, and network systems.

11th PROGRAMMING (6640)

• Students in the Programming course explore programming concepts, use algorithmic procedures, implement programming procedures with one or more standard languages, and master programming fundamentals

• Coding is used throughout the course

• Graphical user interfaces may be used as students design and develop interactive multimedia applications, including game programs

• Employ HTML or JavaScript to create Webpages

Prerequisite: Programming

• Use object-oriented programming to develop database applications

• Create interactive multimedia applications including game applications, mobile applications, and web applications

Sound Engineering

An audio engineer operates and sets up recording equipment used to capture the technical aspects of sound during the process of recording, mixing, and producing. Using a variety of computer software and cloud-based music technology programs, audio engineers work on the production of movies, music recordings, live shows, or video games. They work with singers, arrangers, musicians, record producers, artists, and game design engineers to achieve the best sound possible. Audio engineering pathway curriculum and enrichment learning programs focus on the use of computer software and cloud-based technology to create music and other sound productions.

PATHWAY SEQUENCE

10th Studio Basics (Hampton High)

Students learn the basics of music theory and structure. Orientation and use of the midi keyboard and computer digital audio workstation (DAW) to create and manipulate sound. They explore sound effects, simple melodies and learn how to add harmony to different genres of music. Projects include creating a ringtone and  remixing rock, pop and motown arrangements. Using these fundamentals students will apply their learning through the study of sound basics, sound design, and music production.

11th Sound Design (Hampton High)
Prerequisite: Studio Basics (Hampton High)

Building on the skills and knowledge gained in Studio Basics, students begin to work with multitrack recordings as they learn storytelling through music. The use of special effects and suspense music are used to create a soundtrack for a short film. Various careers in studio engineering are explored. Students will engage in several types of audio and musical instrument digital interface recording, editing, and mixing.

12th Music Production (Hampton High)
Prerequisite: Sound Design (Hampton High)

Building on the skills acquired in Studio Basics and Sound Design, students explore music as a game composer. They learn what it means to be a soundscape engineer. After researching the history of video gaming, they add to their portfolio by creating characters and their leitmotifs, soundtracks to support their worlds and how to build sound excitement into action scenes. They refine their music theory skills as they learn songwriting techniques and what it means to make music memorable. Provides students a foundation in digital mixing and recording for a possible career in the music industry.
